With the Cayenne Hybrid on hold till at least 2010. Porsche will be building it with a Diesel.
Of course they will be using an engine from Audi, but how else would they be able to have them available by the end of this year.

Now when you get yours, be sure to fill it using Bio-Diesel

Interesting News

So science has created a bacteria that “creates” crude oil.

Genetically Engineered Bugs that eat wastes crops and literally poop out crude oil.

Now I am all for new technologies, but I just wonder if this has been thought out thoroughly?

What would happen if a barrel full of these little critters gets loose in a corn field someplace?

Do they multiply on their own? What would happen if another critter happens to ingest a bunch?

I can foresee a futuristic Jurassic Park in the making here. Whats your take on this?

In other news Honda has released its new Hydrogen powered car, the FCX, in the US. They only brought over a few, and only some bigshot Hollywood types have them at the moment. The plan is to lease out a few dozen in the next year with a total of about 200 in the next 3 years.

This is good news but the only problem is will WE ever get the needed infrastructure to support the widespread use of hydrogen cars. They are of no use to us if there is no place to fill them up.

I’m thinking that we do deserve $4 gas

I read an editorial recently claiming that the current fuel crisis that we are in is in fact our own fault. See a copy of the article $4 gas, its all our fault

It seems to me that all of our over indulgence that we seem to think we are entitled to have driven the price of gas out of control. A lot of people will sit back and blame the government for all of this, but the reality of it is we are to blame.

It has been our appetite for larger faster cars and SUV’s that has been the largest contributer to this problem. As quoted from the article,

“the actual gas mileage of cars and light trucks produced last year was only 20.2 mpg, worse than it was in 1987. The Environmental Protection Agency says that in 2006, vehicles sold in America were the heaviest, fastest, and most powerful of any since it began collecting data. A typical engine, just 118 horsepower by 1987, now boasts 223 horsepower.”

Now being a gear head and racer myself I can understand wanting more horsepower and being able to go faster, but how fast do we actually have to be able to go in our daily commute?

There are also way too many extra large SUV’s flying down the hy-way at 80 plus MPH with only one person in them.

This is simply wasteful, and has been happening for much too long. Now maybe the government is to blame, maybe the law makers should have mandated higher MPG ratings.

But lets face it. The US is driven only by the almighty dollar. And if it is large gas guzzling cars and SUV’s that the people are plunking down their cash for, well by golly thats what we are going to produce.

I have said this before, but it is well worth mentioning again, because it is the truth. (truth? what a concept) We as a society must change our way of thinking and our spending before any of the car companies will take any kind of “green” approach to making cars ans SUV’s.
